Kentucky Virtual Academy Earns Purple Star Designation
A Commitment to Supporting Military-Connected Students
Kentucky Virtual Academy (KYVA) is proud to announce that we have officially been awarded the Purple Star School designation, a statewide honor recognizing schools that demonstrate an unwavering commitment to supporting military-connected students and their families. This achievement reflects KYVA’s dedication to ensuring that students from active-duty, National Guard, Reserve, and veteran families feel connected, supported, and empowered to succeed—no matter where their military journey takes them. KYVA is the first and only virtual program in Kentucky to earn the Purple Star designation.
The Purple Star School program is a state-sponsored initiative that honors schools going above and beyond to meet the unique needs of military families. Launched in Ohio in 2017 and supported by the U.S. Department of Defense, the Military Child Education Coalition, and the Military Interstate Children’s Compact Commission, the program is now active in 41 states across the country.
Schools that receive the Purple Star designation signal to families that they are committed to helping military-connected students develop the academic and social-emotional skills needed to become college-, career-, and life-ready.
The Purple Star designation affirms that KYVA is committed to:
- Supporting students who may relocate within Kentucky
- Providing consistent, high-quality education regardless of where families move
- Offering a stable learning environment during deployments or major family transitions
With KYVA, military-connected students can remain enrolled in the same school even as their home address changes—a benefit that minimizes disruption and helps students stay focused on learning.
